base with the optical platform, zoom H2n Handy Portable recorder is Excellent for versatile, spatial acquisition of musical ensembles and audio for VR, the zoom H2n portable handheld recorder with an built-in 5-mic array lets you capture high-resolution stereo or surround sound audio in the palm of your hand.
Make aurally exciting music tracks and produce captivating sound beds with nothing more than the H2n.
Such as other H-Series Handy recorders such as the H5 and H6, you can hold it in your hand, attach it to a mic stand or support, or mount it to a body (shoe fitting available separately); the H2n's multichannel functions and durable, travel-friendly chassis make it more than prepared to meet the varied demands of YouTube material creators, musicians, sound recordists, and more.
From the unit's long battery life to the unit's Spatial Audio support, the H2n is well fitted for tracking live music, capture sound effects and ambience, or generating sound for 360° VR videos.
It can supply plug-in power for a lavalier condenser mic, or even accept a immediate line-level link from a mixer or cable-free receiver. No matter the source, selectable auto-recording and pre-recording maintain that you'll never lose the start of a make.

Onboard 5-Mic Array for Customizable sound Pickup

The H2n's built-in 5-mic array opens the door to true stereo or surround sound capture without outboard microphones.
The built-in mics—two form a X/Y pair, whereas the other three are configured in a mid-side pattern can be employed separately for X/Y or MS stereo capture, or combined to produce 2- or 4-channel surround sound.
A simple dial atop the grille grants effortless switching between the four settings.

Stereo/Surround Record Modes: Guide

X/Y setting utilizes two matched unidirectional mics location at a 90° angle (relative to every other) for detailed, phase-accurate acquisition with a tight stereo picture.
MS setting employs one forward-facing mic and two side-facing mics to simultaneously acquisition direct signal and ambience while delivering optimal stereo-to-mono compatibility.
The H2n's onboard MS decoder enables you to refine the relative level of the mic component before or after the capture process, effectively manipulating the perceived stereo width.
Use 2ch setting to produce a one stereo file of the combined mics, or choose 4ch setting to capture the feed from the H2n's X/Y mics onto one stereo track and feed from the MS mics onto another.
The resulting pair of tracks can then be routed to standalone speakers for an spatial listening experience or can be blended into a custom stereo track.
In asset, the H2n's MS decoding function can be employed to independently alter the level of the Side feed in both 2ch and 4ch settings.

Spatial sound for VR

Using Spatial Audio setting, you can produce a one 4-channel, multi-track WAV file that incorporates omni, left/right, and ahead/backward tracks.
This Spatial Audio file is then prepared to be combined with 360° VR videos captured with the Google Jump-compatible imaging device rig (such as the GoPro Odyssey or Ricoh Theta).
After completed, the spatial videos are prepared to upload to YouTube.

3.5mm Microphone/Line Input: Plug-In Power

Because of a 3.5mm stereo mini-jack source that supplies 2.5V plug-in power, the H2n can handle an outboard condenser microphone such as a clip-on lavalier for crisp, close-miked speech rendering.
Plugging in an outboard source to the 3.5mm jack overrides the built-in X/Y stereo mic, so no menu-based source selection is required.
Since the 3.5mm source also accommodates line-level feed, you can route the feed of a cable-free microphone receiver into the H2n.

Audio Interface Functionality and SD Card recording workflow — Zoom H2n Handy

Maximize portability by capture directly to a separately provided SD/SDHC medium (up to 32GB rating).
A 4GB medium will yield over three hour period of 4-channel capture at 16-bit / 44.1 kHz definition through the BWF-compliant WAV configuration for uncompressed audio quality and industry-standardized file compatibility.
Instead, use the H2n as a USB microphone, or as a 4-in/2-out USB 2.0 audio connection at up to 16-bit / 48 kHz.
The USB port additionally permits the H2n to be employed as a medium reader for fast file transfers.
