Engineered to withstand daily camera-rig use while remaining light enough for handheld, gimbal, stabilizer, and drone applications, the Tilta Mirage Motorized VND Kit combines modular components into a versatile system. It includes a matte box that clamps onto lenses with a 95mm outer diameter, a variable ND system, and a wireless controller for accurately changing the ND effect from 0.3 to 2.7 stops. The matte box weighs approximately as much as a conventional 4 x 5.65" glass filter and supports Tilta's round 95mm filters through the supplied filter adapter. Its modular construction lets you adapt the setup to the needs of each shot.
The rigid hood and detachable top flag help suppress glare and protect footage against overhead flare. Four supplied lens adapters fit threaded lens fronts measuring 67, 72, 77, or 82mm. Attach the included 15mm LWS rod clamp to support the Mirage on rods, relieving the lens of its weight and accommodating lenses with rotating fronts. A separately available stackable 4 x 5.65" filter holder enables the use of 4 x 5.65" filters. Other optional modular accessories include a top flag, dual circular filter tray, Nano motor, filter protector, and a rubber hood for filming directly against windows.

The supplied VND module offers precise adjustment of the ND effect between 0.3 and 2.7 stops. Hard stops built into the ND 0.3 to 2.7 range help prevent the unwanted X-pattern shadow from appearing. Natural color reproduction is maintained without color shift, and the filter elements feature a wider axis. To avoid vignetting, Tilta advises using ND 0.3 to 2.1 with wide-angle lenses and ND 2.1 to 2.7 at focal lengths greater than 35mm.
Remote wireless adjustment of the VND unit is provided by the micro-motor, making it possible to change ND strength while the camera is installed on a gimbal or stabilizer. It also enables smooth adjustments during a take without introducing camera movement. The standard operating range is approximately 328', while an optional wireless signal amplifier can extend it beyond one mile, making the system particularly useful for aerial photography. Control the VND motor through the included wireless controller or a Tilta Nucleus Series Wireless Follow Focus System. The NATO rail-mounted Wireless Controller operates the Nucleus M, Nano motor, and Tilta Mirage Wireless Motor. The included Nucleus Nano Motor Mounting Bracket secures a Nucleus Nano motor directly onto the VND module.
Vents integrated into the matte box body improve airflow, helping lower wind resistance and increase stability when capturing subjects at high speeds, including footage filmed from a car or drone.
Configure the modular matte box in numerous ways, ranging from a stripped-down arrangement with only the 95mm filter holder and lens clamp to a more complete setup incorporating a stackable 4 x 5.65" tray, the included lens hood and top flag, or an optional rubber hood in place of the standard hood. You may also add the optional 15mm LWS rod support, allowing the matte box to be rod-mounted when carrying heavier filter combinations such as the optional VND (variable neutral density) system.
Tilta's circular 95mm filter system provides coverage for lenses with outer barrel diameters of up to 95mm. It also offers considerable weight reduction over conventional filters, since each round filter weighs approximately one-quarter as much as a traditional 4 x 5.65" glass filter.
Install an optional stackable 4 x 5.65" filter tray between the filter clamp and matte box hood to conveniently accommodate one or two 4 x 5.65" filters.
