Removing the side L-bracket converts the updated design from full-cage coverage into a lighter half cage appropriate for gimbal operation. Accessory attachment points include the NATO rail on the top plate, a shoe mount, and 3/8"-16 and 1/4"-20 threads equipped with anti-twist locating pins.
