Created as camera-independent optics built around an open standard, ARRI's adaptable LPL-mount Signature Primes provide an extensive choice of focal lengths, matching zooms, and straightforward options for personalizing their appearance. The 15mm T1.8 ARRI Signature Prime, like every lens in the lineup, accommodates sensors through full-frame and large-format sizes. It belongs to a 16-lens prime series characterized by natural-looking imagery, appealing bokeh, restrained flare, and a bright maximum aperture that enables shallow depth of field. This wide-angle prime lends a gentle quality to large-format images while rendering natural skin tones and clean, rich blacks. Its gradual focus transition separates the subject smoothly from the surrounding frame.
Custom diffusion and other visual treatments can be produced by placing stockings, nets, or voile inside the Signature Prime's magnetic rear net holder. A telecentric optical layout reduces breathing, while the 11-blade iris creates soft, rounded out-of-focus highlights. Its built-in LDS-2 lens data system maintains backward compatibility with ARRI LDS-1 and exchanges information with Cooke /i Technology.
Magnesium housings and aluminum gear rings keep each Signature Prime compact and lightweight, while water resistance helps prepare it for demanding productions. Focus scales are marked in feet. Internal flare is controlled through anti-reflective coatings, light traps, and baffles inside the barrel. If an accident or stunt damages the camera setup, the mechanical construction also provides ARRI service technicians with easier access to the lens components.
