This Basic Camera Set includes the ARRI ALEXA LF (LPL), which builds upon the original ALEXA imaging platform with a large-format 4K sensor. Native 4K capture is available across LF Open Gate, LF 16:9, and LF 2.39:1 operating modes, with recording in either ARRIRAW or ProRes. By pairing large-format resolution with an optimized pixel size, the camera produces detailed, expressive images characterized by lifelike skin tones and fluid bokeh. ARRI's integrated LPL mount is engineered for large-format acquisition, while a PL-to-LPL adapter permits the use of any PL-mount lens. Because LPL has a larger diameter and shallower flange depth than the original ARRI PL standard, compatible large-format lenses may be designed with less size and weight.

Recording choices on the ALEXA SXT LF encompass ARRIRAW and ProRes using 1 or 2TB SXR Capture Drives or 256GB SxS PRO+ cards. An EI 800 base sensitivity, 16-bit processing, and more than 14 stops of dynamic range prepare captured material for HDR-display workflows. Maximum frame rates of 150 fps support smooth slow-motion imagery and clearer HFR (High Frame Rate) production.

The ALEXA LF incorporates the wireless features of the ALEXA SXT W, including Wi-Fi and support for ARRI ECS camera and lens-control systems. Supplied in the set, a WVR-1 receiver handles wireless video across distances reaching 2000'. Its internal holder accepts any one of eight separately sold Large Format Full Spectrum Neutral Density (LF FSND) filters. The camera also supports established ARRI Look files and workflows, plays both ARRIRAW and ProRes clips, and provides 2-channel audio through a 5-pin XLR input. Additional components in the Basic Set include SXR and SxS media adapters, an EVF-1 electronic viewfinder with VMB-3 bracket and cable, a CCH-1 center carrying handle, and an SD card for loading or retaining LUTs, SUPs, and related data.

Three Modes on a Large Full-Frame Sensor

As with the wider ALEXA family, the ALEXA LF balances high resolution against an optimized pixel size to achieve excellent imaging performance. Available recording areas are 4448 x 3096 Open Gate, 3840 x 2160 16:9, and 4448 x 1856 2.39:1 anamorphic.

ALEXA Rendering in Native 4K

Native 4K recording preserves the nuanced color, vivid detail, and natural skin-tone reproduction associated with ALEXA cameras. Colorimetry supports HDR (High Dynamic Range) and WCG (Wide Color Gamut) pipelines, contributing to a restrained and immersive visual character.

Extensive Recording Formats

With SXR Capture Drives, LF Open Gate supports up to 90 fps in ARRIRAW and 40 fps in ProRes 4444 XQ. LF 16:9 reaches 90 fps ARRIRAW or 60 fps ProRes 4444 XQ, while LF 2.39:1 anamorphic extends to 150 fps ARRIRAW and 60 fps ProRes 4444 XQ. Every sensor mode also offers ARRIRAW and ProRes 444 XQ/4444/422 HQ/422 recording.

Broad Exposure Range

Reduced image noise, ASA 800 base sensitivity, and 14+ stops of dynamic range complement HDR-oriented production workflows.

Purpose-Built LPL Mount

Integrated into the ALEXA LF, the LPL mount was developed specifically around large-format image sensors. Its diameter exceeds that of the original ARRI PL mount while its flange focal depth is shorter, enabling large-format LPL optics to be made more compact and lightweight.

ARRI Signature Prime Family

ARRI's separately available Signature Prime collection contains 16 large-format LPL-mount focal lengths spanning 12 to 280mm. These lenses render organic imagery with natural skin tones and soft bokeh. Machined-magnesium construction reduces weight while maintaining durability, and the LDS-2 system communicates comprehensive lens metadata rapidly.

Support for PL Optics, ALEXA Hardware & Established Workflows

Existing ALEXA-compatible accessories, lenses, software tools, and ARRI Look files can continue to be used with the ALEXA LF. A separately purchased PL-to-LPL adapter accommodates both Super 35 and full-frame PL-mount lenses. Lens information may be received through LDS-2, LDS-1, or Cooke /i systems.

Wireless Features Shared with ALEXA SXT W

Like the ALEXA SXT W, the ALEXA LF integrates both Wi-Fi and a wireless video transmitter. This provides immediate support for the included WVR-1 video receiver and various ARRI ECS (electronic lens/camera control system) components. Keeping wireless hardware inside the camera reduces rig weight, shortens setup time, and limits excess cabling on set.
