ALEXA 35 Body & LBUS PL Mount Set
This set packages the ALEXA 35 body with a Cine License, LBUS PL mount, B-mount battery plate, and BUD-1 Utility Dovetail. The compact, straightforward camera records MFX/ARRIRAW and MFX/Apple ProRes to 1 or 2TB Codex drives, supporting resolutions through 4.6K and frame rates reaching 120p.
4.6K Super 35 ARRI ALEV 4 CMOS Sensor
A new 4.6K Super 35 CMOS sensor is central to the ALEXA 35's image quality. Its 17-stop dynamic range exceeds earlier ARRI cameras by 2.5 stops. Of this gain, 1.5 stops extend the highlight range for a filmlike roll-off, while one additional stop reaches farther into shadows without overexposing brighter areas. This broad latitude benefits HDR production, backlit scenes, and image refinement during post-production.
Video Recording Formats
Anamorphic de-squeezing and down-sampling inside the camera enable 19 ARRIRAW and Apple ProRes formats. Their varied aspect ratios, resolutions, data rates, and other properties accommodate numerous production approaches. Available recording resolutions include 4.6, 4, 3.3, 3, 2.7, and 2K.
Stray Light Suppression
Both the camera and the new ARRI PL lens mounts—Hirose or LBUS—use stray-light suppression to preserve the complete contrast range of the chosen lens and eliminate grayish coloration.
High ISO Camera
Across its EI 160 to 6400 range, the ALEXA 35 provides greater sensitivity and less noise than any previous camera in the ARRI family, including under dim conditions. The optional Enhanced Sensitivity Mode covers EI 2560-6400 and combines with wide dynamic range to produce nuanced dark-environment imagery, suiting available-light or spontaneous capture.
REVEAL Color Science
Developed with feedback from cinematographers and colorists, ARRI REVEAL color science combines six elements to improve sensitivity, dynamic range, color, and contrast.
- A new debayering method works with the ALEXA 35's substantial processing capability to render cleaner edges suited to compositing.
- The new ACE4 color engine transforms RGB data into ARRI Wide Gamut 4 (AWG4), improving accuracy, saturation, and color tracking even in subtle hues and dim illumination.
- AWG4 exceeds Rec. 2020 in size while avoiding “virtual” colors outside human vision, enabling quicker grading, simpler color-space conversion, and ACES compatibility.
- A new Log-C 4 curve accommodates the camera's expanded 17-stop latitude. Before conversion into Rec. 709 or another color space, its image appears darker.
- New LUTs combine the improved sensor, Log-C 4, and color space to provide optimal shadow rendering, color fidelity, and a strong grading foundation. These LUTS require Log-C 4 and lack some manual controls previously used with Log-C 3.
- Backward compatibility enables intercutting with ALEXA, ALEXA Mini, and AMIRA footage. REVEAL can process ALEXA Mini LF and ALEXA LF imagery to match ALEXA 35 material. Although processing does not add dynamic range or ARRI Textures, it provides cleaner edges, improved color, simpler grading, and support for ACES, Log-C 4, and the new LUT.
Versatile Lens Choices
- An included LBUS PL mount gives this set compatibility with a broad selection of cinema-style lenses.
- Separately sold mount adapters open access to extensive modern and vintage lens choices, including spherical, anamorphic, Super 35, and large-format options.
- All common metadata standards are supported, and an optional plug-in enables real-time metadata streaming.
Full Feature Set in a Compact Form
- Measuring 8 x 6 x 5.8", the rugged ALEXA 35 resembles the ALEXA Mini in size while incorporating functions associated with the larger ALEXA.
- Familiar operator and assistant features include a simple menu, capture to 1 or 2TB Codex Compact drives, and a housing resistant to temperature, splashes, and dust.
- New capabilities include HDR viewing through the MVF-2, configurable SDI text overlays, individually switchable frame lines, and easily read Info Panels for camera data.
Interfaces
- Left display: View status and modify settings during stabilizer, drone, or crane use without attaching an EVF. The ND setting may be selected as a display “screensaver” for a quick reminder of required stop compensation.
- Connectors: A comprehensive right-side interface supplies a second EVF connection, dual 1.5/3/6/12G-SDI outputs with return on the second, timecode input/output, and 12 and 24V accessory power ports.
- Ethernet: The Ethernet connection streams metadata in real time for mixed-reality productions (MRP).
- Audio: Options comprise two internal microphones like those in the ALEXA Mini LF, a 6-pin LEMO input, 3.5mm headphone output, embedded SDI sound, and AEM-1 audio-module compatibility.
24V B-Mount Battery Power
Power the 24V ALEXA 35 through the included ARRI B-Mount battery adapter and separately sold batteries. One versatile B-Mount system can also supply both 12 and 24V accessories, reducing the space and weight associated with carrying two batteries. Compatible 26V batteries work through third-party adapters from Anton Bauer, Hawk-Woods, and CORE SWX. A separately available PDM-1 Power Distribution Module adds seven accessory-power connections.
Dedicated Accessories
- The PL Mount Set supplies a BUD-1 Balance Utility Dovetail and B-Mount Battery Adapter.
- A Touchdown plate set is offered separately.
- Optional electronic accessories include the MVF-2 Multi Viewfinder, PDM-1 power-distribution module, and AEM-1 audio extension with one AES3/AES42 input plus two mic/line mini-XLR connections.
ARRI Tools and Apps
ARRI provides free website tools, applications, and tutorials that simplify acquisition and post-production. Camera Companion supports remote operation of one or several cameras, while ARRIRAW HDE Transcoder reduces ARRIRAW file sizes. ARRI Reference enables file creation and viewing, SDR and HDR conversion, and export to Apple ProRes, OpenEXR, and TIFF.
